Shrimp is a form of seafood abundant in Mexico, and is widely used in Mexican recipes. Fresh shrimps are used in soups and other hearty meals, while dried shrimps are used in traditional Mexican sauces, like Mole. Using shrimp for shrimp tacos is better than having meat such as a taco meat recipe because shrimp is a healthier and a quick cooking alternative to meat.
Here, you will find quick and easy recipes for shrimp tacos that you can use in order to get better ways on how to get shrimp into your meals. Shrimp is a quick-cooking and delicious alternative to meat that you can enjoy a whole lot. This makes shrimp tacos the perfect vehicle to make your fresh and wonderful shrimp from the market shine.
How to Devein Shrimp for Your Shrimp Tacos
To even begin making shrimp tacos, you must first know how to peel and devein your shrimp. Peeling and deveining your shrimp ensures that the shrimp will cook easily, and that you would not have to peel or devein the shrimp after cooking, which can be an impossible task to begin with.
Although your local fishmonger can do it for you, it is important that you should know how to peel and devein shrimp for your shrimp tacos so that you can have the freshest shrimp possible from the market to the dinner table. Pre-peeled and pre-deveined shrimp can lose some of the texture, quality, and taste of fresh shrimp.
So, to peel and devein shrimp for your shrimp tacos, what you need is a small knife and the shrimp. First, cut along the outer end of the shrimp with the skin on, going through the shell. This process will make it easier for you to remove the shell, the legs, and the tail later. Remove the head by twisting it, and devein the shrimp by scooping out the intestine from the cut that you’ve just made. After which, peel the shrimp and remove the legs and the tail and set the shrimp aside. Do this process over and over again for the shrimp until you’ve peeled and deveined all of your fresh shrimp. Use immediately after peeling and deveining the shrimp.

Now that you know how to peel and devein your shrimp for your shrimp tacos, you can now start with a simple recipe such as a shrimp taco with a fresh tomato salsa. It is a quick and easy recipe which can be done in just minutes.
First, prepare 300 grams of deveined and peeled shrimp and put in a bowl. Squeeze the juice of one lime and add a handful of cilantro to the bowl. Set aside for ten minutes.
In another bowl, dice large 3 ripe tomatoes and add a small pinch of salt and pepper. Add about a half of a jalapeno pepper, seeded, and finely minced. After, add half an onion, a clove of garlic, some cilantro and parsley, and a squeeze of half a lime or lemon. Set aside on the fridge until you’re ready to use it. The salsa can be made ahead of time, for about 6 hours, as long as you keep it in the fridge.
Shred 2 hearts of Romaine lettuce and set aside. Grill your marinated shrimp for about 1 and a half minute on each side, or until flesh has turned opaque. Lay down 6 crisp taco shells on a platter. Spoon some of the lettuce in the taco shell, then the shrimp, before adding the salsa on top. Enjoy as soon as you are finished assembling your shrimp tacos. Serve your shrimp tacos on a side of Mexican rice or grilled corn or eat it by itself as a quick snack.
Taco Salad Recipes – Shrimp Taco Salad with a Guacamole Sauce
Now, shrimp tacos need not to look like the traditional taco. What you can do is to mix it up and make a whole new recipe that your family can enjoy. One of the ways to do it is to prepare a shrimp and taco salad with a guacamole sauce.
Now, you can prepare the shrimp as you have made it in the shrimp tacos, marinated in lime juice and cilantro, and grilled afterwards, or you can just dress it up in lemon juice, and sauté it with garlic, butter, and olive oil. After choosing the way to cook your shrimp, you can break about 3 hard taco shells on a plate, add a head of butter or iceberg lettuce as bedding for the salad, dice 2 small tomatoes, and make a guacamole sauce.
A guacamole sauce for a shrimp tacos salad is as simple as making a salsa sauce. You can follow the recipe above and just add a ripe avocado or two in the mix. This will yield more than enough guacamole for one recipe, but as long as you keep your guacamole sauce in the fridge, it is pretty much safe from spoilage. To jazz up the flavors however, you can replace the lime with lemon juice and add some fresh basil instead of cilantro or parsley.
